So far, the explanations given have baffled me completely.
What about the "s" in rows and how have you arrived at the word pea? I am usually good at cryptic clues but this one os lost on me. Can an "s" be referred to as a "point"? (ie no point at this number)?

I have one last question to answer. The answer consists of two words 9 and 3 letters respectively.
Clue is: Mat rows far with no point at this number.
Two people have suggested "marrowfat pea" but I cannot understand how the "pea" bit is arrived at. Also there is a spare letter "s" in the anagram of "Mat rows far" to get "Marrowfat".
and "with no point at this number" I can't see how the three letter word "pea" is arrived at.
Please help!

Take the words mat, rows far.Remove the S (N,S,E and W are points on the compass) Mat,row far is left-anagram of marrowfat. I don't know how to explain pea better than explanation already given. Think you'll just have to accept marrowfat pea as the answer even if you don't fully understand why.
Stargazer, you have had explanations on your other two posts about this - you don't need to keep starting knew threads. PEA is an anaesthetic, which makes you "numb" so an anaesthetic is a numb-er.
P.E.A is a type of anaesthetic. Number in a cryptic clue often means anaesthetic, pronounced nummer as in something which numbs.

Thank you everyone. I will bow out quietly and look up P.E.A. anaesthetic.
