I started doing my family tree some years ago but did most of it at the library as it was free to use ancestry.co.uk but I'm not sure if you can still do that so I have been thinking about paying a subscription and doing it at home but don't know which site is best to use. There was always someone on hand to ask at the library so I need a site that is easy to use as there is no-one at home I can ask for help.
Which site do you prefer and why?

I think the easiest, and most comprehensive, is ancestry.
I built my original tree on GenesReunited and have the minimum membership on there (It's less than £10 for 6 months). They have a section called Community which is full of avid genealogists all sitting there waiting to help you. I get my info from ancestry, the genealogist, find my past, family search, and scotlands people, but use ancestry the most.
You can still go to the library missprim, I don't have a subscription to ancestry so I sometimes go to the library. Familysearch is free and quite good.
Findmypast is about the best, you can also search by address on this site. also you don't have to sort through all the American stuff, try the BDM and the IGI sites also try curiousfox, com a site that enabals you to put any names up that you cannot find and there might be sombody on there loooking for the same person or know the one you want, Good luck with your search as i am stuck on my paternal grand parents, i've got the others back to 7 generations,
I was asked on ancestry for my parents church where they got married and didn't know and also my fathers parents surname which I also didn't as he was brought up by relations, it came to a full stop.
