There appears to be a problem with the Spectator site as my
copy omitted half the grid.
Even though I was able to draw in the missing squares and complete
the puzzle, I hope that someone with a PDF link will come on line so
we can submit a proper entry.

Congratulations to our own CruciferNZ on her success with No 1975.

Hi K
Thanks for that news - I haven't heard from them yet and I haven't sighted this week's - did I win First or Runner up?
Question Author
Runner up - well done.
Thanks K - the money always comes in handy!
Congratulations on your win crucifernz

it printed without any problem for me, K.

Hi slaney

It must be me then.
A yellow bordered rectangle covers half the grid in the 'thumbnail' part, & when I printed it only the clue numbers showed and I had to draw in and bar off the top of the grid.

I'm not very tech. so I thought I'd wait for mintyman's PDF link.
Congratulations to crucifernz! No. 1978 was quite a challenge, but the only thing I still have to fill in is the middle letter of 27 across. How difficult can a 3-letter word be, for goodness' sake? Could anyone give me with a hint? The wordplay in 6D beats me.
Question Author
Hi helveticus

The middle letter is E.

a C at end would give you a Rune.
Helveticus - 6d with a "T" in front could mean "subject to"?
Congrats, Crucifernz. Any one out there with a PDF version?
No PDF, but this link should work fine (it's on page 49)

@kayakamina: Many thanks! The relief is almost palpable.
@roslyn251224: 6D with a T in front would have to mean either "subject" or "subject to be" (but *not* "subject to"), though I don't see that any of this works. Maybe I am just particularly dim today (see above).
Thanks, Cruciverbalist. Much appreciated.
For any out-and-out PDF fans still unhappy, here's the link...http://www.spectator.co.uk/article_ass

For 6d "behead" 2 letters
Many thanks for the links as always.
Congratulations to Crucifernz on a well merited success.
Apart from all being place names in a certain principality with a very healthy veg as its national symbol, and without giving the game away for everyone else, is there any other more specific connection between unclued lights ....
