Just got my dog from dogs home, she is 12 months old we think, she was a stray who had been beaten, I want to get her spayed but don't know when this is ok to be done.

Don't dogs homes spay them before they're rehomed?

Could you ring them again and ask when she last had a season? Then phone your vet giving them that date and then ask his advice?
Molly hasn't been done and we got ehr from a home, but she's stopped being in season now.
If the dogs home have not given you more info I would take her to the vets, have her checked over and he/she will give you all the info you require. It is hoped that the dogs home have given her the usual injections as she needs these.I'm pleased you have gone to a dogs home, far too many in kennels i'm afraid.Good luck with your new lady, hope you have many years together.
Are you sure she has not already been done? If not and you know when her last season was then you would usually spay them about three months after the last one, i.e. about halfway between seasons which are usually (but not always) about every six months. Sometimes if they are in poor health or condition they do not come into season, as nature would not allow them to have puppies in that state. I would book her in at your vets for an examination and ask for her to be booked in to be spayed, They will probably do it anyway, unless she comes in before the date booked.
Thinking about it, if she is young she may not yet have had a season although the first one is usually anytime between six months and fourteen months, so if she is about a year she could well have had her first one, so would not be due in again until she was about 12 - 18 months.

Thank you all for your answers, I have spoke to dogs home several times but not been very helpful, they just say they do not know very much about her as she was picked up off the street about 2 months ago, they have tolf me just to wait and see if she comes into season,

I took her to the local vet who aldso told me to wait until she has come into season then she can be done 6/8 weeks later
I would wait for a while until you get to know her personality, as you say she has been beaten. This might have made her timid and scared or it could have made her more aggressive.
Spaying will make a bitch less assertive so if she has become timid due to previous treatment it might be better to let her gain a bit of confidence first.
