Hello EV N&C Wine Clubbers, plus TTers,
There shouldn't be anyone in the DC with this offering. Although one wonders if all these errant students will apply theirselves to best advantage! Apologies for missing last weeks thread, but Bruxelles was more demanding than expected! Eurostar compensated well though!
Time to consider what fodder will accompany the Tempranillo!

Hi Doc. I breezed through 99% of this last night but am not completely happy with my 4th or 5th words that are provided by the corrected letters. Would you say that these words are more likely to be heard in the UK than the US? Also stuck on 38a.

But basketball has started so I will not be focusing on 38a too much! Doc, your Yellow Jackets are in action later today against Ohio State (where I was once a faculty member). Should we have a friendly wager? Loser must raise a glass to the winner, and, er, winner should raise a glass in victory. Deal?
I breezed through this too except for 38a which too a bit of working out. Dr b, think of a Hebrew name.

Hello dr b,
I have problems with the 4th and 5th words provided by the correct letters. As far as 38a is concerned, you need to be thinking of removing a well known prophet, which rhymes with a Cathedral City here in the UK. I'd originally gone for removing someone else from an oil bearing seed, but which would have resulted in the same grid entry!
I'll agree to your suggestion about the outcome of the basketball match. I'd even be agreeable to raising one before it starts!
It would have been more elegant if the correct letters were the ones removed from the normal clues resulting in 4 letter entries.
..that should read "took"....
Afternoon all. I share the reservations about the words provided by the corrected letters, and spent a while pondering 38ac. A tricky clue, that.
Hi everybody!

Boy, that wasn't bad but I share the reservations already expressed.
Dr B, in case you didn't pick up on lat week's thread many thanks for that last piece of help. Enjoy the basketball.
38a sorted out; thanks. I wonder if, on those 4th and 5th words, if there's an error in that the misprinted letters in 37a and 1d were used to form the word, instead of the correct letters. If that were the case the 4th and 5th words would work just fine, yes?

Novalis - glad to help!
By the way, I was one of the winners for the Crossword Centre's February puzzle:

Yay for me!
Many congratulations Dr B. A well merited win for somebody who is always willing to help others.
Many gz dr b - yay indeed for you! Agree with your thoughts on the 4th and 5th words. It would look like an attack of the killer Sunday Times bug.... Oh, and glad to see that your daughter has added to her blog; I was beginning to worry that the 9-5 lifestyle had become too much! I loved her picture of the market.
All done - agree with all the above comments, so still not totally happy with the missing words.
dr b:
Congratulations for '8forGeorge'
I was the other winner :-)
Hi MLN:Rugby!

A double celebration. Many congratulations!
Excellent; grats also, Novalis
Whoops; just reread properly [blush]

Gz MLN
Double congrats, MLN.

Doc: Ohio State beat Georgia Tech. Cheers!
dr b, I think your suggestion about the incorrect letters being used in 37a and 1d makes perfect sense. If so, that would be errors two weeks running. What is the editor doing? Few things more irritating than wasting time trying to solve a puzzle with a mistake in it. One more and I think I'll stop
Twice yay for dr b and MLN!

I agree it looks like another error. Going back to last week they were going to publish
the correct clue for 3d this weekend. I can't see it in Clued Up, or am I missing something?
slaney

the correct clue was published at the side of EV907, in case you dont have it to hand it was

3d Model teacher embraces abstainer and me (6)
Thanks AndrewG-S - I don't have a print copy.
