1d]patonce
11a. Oberon, his wife Titania refused to give her page boy to him.
Question Author
Patonce fits, but why? I don't get the Coventry connection.
Question Author
Thank you for Oberon. Very good.

Now 1d becomes P-T-O-E
The poet - Coventry PATMORE
Question Author
I think that's right. Thank you.

But I'm not sure what the word "sent" is doing in the clue!
I see what you mean - I think it's just a cryptic way to make you think of a word for " to ignore " instead of thinking of Coventry as part of the writers name AND to make a sentence out of the clue.

I'm struggling with the bottom half of the crossword.

Perhaps you could help me out with 18 Across or 27 across to get me going again.

I thought 18 across should be easy - a play from 1736 - but I've had no joy.

I also presume 27 across is something like Henderson, Sanderson or Winterson, but again no joy.

The TLS is the only Times crossword I haven't won and I would love to. Thanks in advance.
18 ac Marivaux "Le Legs" 1763
27 ac Ben Jonson ("rare" Ben Jonson) "Every Man In his Humour," "Every Man Out of His Humour"
Thank You Poetaster - especially since I didn't post the full clues.

Apologies for the late reply - I've just done a 12 hour shift and only just got home !
