Quite an straightforward grid fill made easier by a helpful crossword title.

Just as well as I want to watch Andy Murray in Australia in an hours time!

Hi again K
Glad Generalist link worked for you.
Finished that last night, now Spectator time ;-)
What good news that Mr Magoo is appearing as a Spectator setter. He's this year's Times crossword competition winner isn't he - and brilliant. Fine crossword, too!
Thanks K and Mintyman
As usual, thanks for the links
Thank you both for the links. Will look forward to tackling this later.
As usual thanks for the links - I find it so handy to receive the crossword in this way. Looking forward to tackling it this afternoon, with any luck
Many thanks for link
Much appreciated K & M
Thanks m & K - how did Murray get on ?
Question Author
He won in 4 sets.

Now for Federer in the final - 8am Sunday.

Cheers
Well done Andy - great to have another Brit in the finals. The Swiss do seem to be on a roll, but good luck to Murray for Saturday's final.
Does anyone else have problems with the wordplay in 36A?
Question Author
36a Ensue - succeed.......ENS (being/entity) UE ( regular/even letters from rUdE)
5d looks like OUTRE - can anyone explain?
Change your E to an O and you've got it (last letters of 1st 5 words of clue).
Thanks dr b.
Fun puzzle - certainly the title was helpful, but a bit of whimsy in January goes down well! Slightly unhappy about one of the unlighted squares in 14ac which could lead to three different letters all making words that mean the same thing. Also can't see the wordplay why or wherefore in 35 dn. Vague pointers would be welcome.
for 14a, I opted for an S since to prise means to lift with a lever. Like you I mulled this one over for a while. To my mind the other choices did not fit in well with "leverage".

35, there were only two words that consisted of only Roman numerals that would fit (I think). I went with CIVIC, with the possibly weak reasoning that civic and roman both mean "related to a city" - a very specific city, in one case.
Thank you, dr b. Your reasoning has gone very much along the lines of ours. A little irritating that they can't both be completely tied down. Annoyingly the z, s and c versions of 14a can all be found in the current Chambers for both definitions.
