6 Yeast ExTRAct ?
When it says first something or last something, it refers to the first/last letter

So Dad = PA + R + TOOK (stole) and the whole word is to have some food.
14. A six letter synonym of against + IL (49 Roman numerals)
67. The answer is a mineral .... a 3 letter word (from Latin) meaning "in the capacity of" + (R)io (T)into (Z)inc

Re No 67

Where does 1962- 1997 come into it please?
It seems a long time ago that I answered this one but I spent a lot of time googling Rio Tinto and they had a change of name/merger and I think it was during those years that they were Rio Tinto Zinc. You can google to get the detail.
Question Author
thank you again Foxlee.

The dates seem superfluous to the clue, or maybe it's just beyond me.

ta x
Well not really. I don't remember the exact detail but if their name was just Rio Tinto then it wouldn't have given you the RTZ that you needed for the answer. You needed the period when their name was Rio Tinto Zinc so you could get to quartz.

I wasn't going to ask but my last one has been driving me mad. Can you give me any clue to No.38 about the First Listener and the last pluck. I'll be able to have a good Christmas if this one is sorted.
Question Author
Nice to be able to help you!

Think 'nerve' for 'pluck' and you know how 'very quietly' is depicted in crosswords.

Ps I'm still struggling with 11 - the Ringo one ?

Any more nudges?
I'll have to think about that while I'm making the fruit salad,

Blake set Ringo is an anagram of a very popular TV character (American) whose series ran for ages - still turns up on BBC 2 sometimes. Set in the army!!! In 1996 there was a film of this character and the lead actor is the answer you want. Hope this helps.
Question Author
Got it!

Thanks Foxlee.
Well, I've finished chopping fruit and I still haven't got the answer.

Can I have the answer as a Christmas present please??

Have you finished the quiz now? Best wishes for a happy Christmas.
I've got it now - a painful condition.
Re Q.14 - the Roman Numeral for 49 is not IL - it's XLIX, clumsy though it seems.
