5d 14 may have 27 in his hand! (7) L--U-R-
The u could be wrong: it comes from 13a wholesome whole sum which i decided was truth. Now I think it could be total and 5d could be letters??

10d 1500 metres athlete of the past (5) --H-R
Again, depending on 13a, this could be --L-R either

12a Thoughts even initially said wrong (5) --E-S

35a It lies-and lies not- within indolence (4) D-L-
This looks like "dole" but why would that be right, if indeed it is?!!

10d Miler
12a Idea
Sorry .... ideas

Thanks, that was quick!
5d clearly crossreferences two other clues. You don't say what those are.
Question Author
Sorry, I forgot that part! 14 is postman and 27 is a dash. Obviously letters would make sense with postman, but with a dash?!
The 27 may not be a cross-reference and is simply a number
A postman may have 27 letters in his hand so LETTERS now makes sense.

Thank you, gen2. And any suggestions re 35a?
Sorry Drum. Obviously DOLE is hidden in the clue but I cannot relate it to lies at all.
Even relating to Senator Dole (USA) doesn't really make sense.
Question Author
Yeah, that's my problem, can't relate it to anything. Thanks though for your help :-)
