NB: This got posted on last week's thread, I have forgotten how to use a computer......if only!
Hello Everyone! I'm back! Not looked at IT yet except to check the number and see if anyone is about.......it would seem not, no doubt you have all found it so easy you have finished it and gone to the pub!
Checked last week's post and you all know DC is NEVER locked,, in fact the door automatically opens when approached by a needy N & Cer. Welcome to all the newcomers, the madwoman is back.
Amazon unbelievable, hard to comprehend a river 1000 miles from the sea being 6 miles wide in the dry season and 45ft deeper in the wet season with a width of 23 miles. Houses with floors that rise with the river and portable cow rafts. Manaus a city of over two million in the middle of the jungle with nowhere to go but on the river.
Back to the pages of emails..................
PS Got back to learn I had won a consolation prize for the Sat Cryptic prize Xword - only been doing it since I began at the Establishment 40 odd years ago! Obviously pays to persevere.

Hi Devadolly!

Glad you're back safe and sound and pleased that you enjoyed yourself. Must have been a marvellously enriching experience.
Well done on your win. Nice to know an EVer/ABer is successful.
This week's isn't to bad. Down clues and their extra letters will soon lead you to the theme etc.
Hello Devadolly,
Welcome back from the Amszon, did Himself enjoy the excursions into the Rain Forest? Hope you enjoyed your holiday too. I suspect no-one actually needed the key to DC, while you were away which I understand was hidden under the virtual doormat!
I am sure the Amazon is wonderful!
Ignore all those pages of e-mails, first priority, delete anything that needed immediate attention, then those that others had already replied to! Then just ignore any that aren't likely to generate income! I wouldn't ignore those from friends and family though, particularly those that have any chance of an inheritance!
Congratulations on the prize, persistance seems to pay off. This week's EV is OK, no need to redeem brain from pawnbrokers!
Novalis, I quite agree, and even a Yahhoo/Google quickly reveals a lead to the thematic unimaginable!
We are off on tuesday to Egypt, so apologies for absence for the next 2 weeks.
Hi DocHH!

Hope you enjoy your trip to Egypt.
Welcome back DD! Bon voyage DocHH!

I needed an easier EV this week as I had a wedding to go to Saturday night - 6 hours of driving for 3 hours of socializing - not a good deal in my book. I actually had the person, the "indistinguishable" items, and the extra letters for the down clues filled in before I even started on the clues. Needless to say I am a bit of a fan of the "person"!
Hi everyone and welcome back to reality devadolly.(and congrats as well)
I agree that this week's was very "do-able" although I am tempted to retreat into DC to sample a few comforts whilst I am recovering from my op (I hope there are plenty of soft cushions!!!!!!) Am going back to work on Wednesday so that gives me plenty of time to catch up with quizzes and crosswords as well as practising the choir pieces.
I hope you have a brilliant holiday DocHH - apologies for absence accepted!

Thank you all for the welcome back - straqnge but there are no emails to say nyone has replied - have AB stopped doing that?
Had a quick look but brain obviously full of Amazon silt, nothing obvious. Did win 7 out of the 12 daily quizzes and we had a very good trivia team for the post tea half hour.
Trust me DocHH the pages are what are left after all the extra junk removed + all the F & F - they go first!!!!!
Further complicartions to the catch-up schedule caused by Himself and toothache - result all the attention seeking and behaviour of a 4 year old with a pan stuck on his head, wish I was back on board, I could lose him there!!
Have a lovely Hols DocHH.
Thanks a lot everyone for the good holiday wishes.
It will be my birthday while we are away, a milestone one, (the bus pass application is already filled out and on the dining room table! Just got to have the photo taken and visit the local Council Offices with those, proof of age and proof of residence!). Herself has told the Travel Agent, who put "Anniversary" on the booking form, this may result in either a room upgrade or an embarrassing time in the restaurant, when the waiters dance through the the eating throng singing "Happy Birthday" and deliver a cake to the table! The former preferred, but the latter expected! Herself gave me my present this evening, she didn't want to take it with her! It's the latest edition of ODQ! Superb, have been operating on just the concise version of the 4th Edition, which has obviously put me at a severe disadvantage in solving EV!! Perhaps Santa will bring the latest edition of Brewers!
BTW DevaDolly, now we have a new improved AB, the person who posts the question no longer gets an e-mail to indicate an answer has been posted. You have to either "bookmark" it or access it via your "Profile", I think it is "Questions Asked"! Such is progress.

As you say, progress DoHH. Will someone please tell me why progress usually means, less convenient, harder to accomplish, more long winded and generally much more boring?
Mere child you are! Bus pass great in London + 10% off at loads of places.
Done quite a bit of EV but no breakthroughs re enigma but am still only half concentrating as Himself is having some trouble re tooth (well, lack of it), he won't stop bleeding and we are waiting for further advice from NHS direct. Couldn't decide he was bleeding to death before after hours could he? Typical fella!. Any thoughts anyone as to why the bleeding, I think it is the Malarone he has been on........................?
Malarone shouldn't really predispose to bleeding - a full blood count with clotting studies would be a good idea if it's still a problem (hopefully not !)

Thank you cruciverbali, all sorted now with a trip to A & E and a couple of stitches, he just has to make a meal of everything!
Great news - sounds like you have your hands full !
Just a quick hello and welcome back to Devadolly - sounds like a great holiday.
I'm away myself at the moment, in the wilds of Lincolnshire, so haven't even had the chance to get a copy of EV this week - friends taking us out and about everywhere and infrequent access to internet. May well not get the chance to look at next week's either, but back to the Algarve on 1st December, prepared to join battle again.
