I think the lengths in 13a should be (4,6,6), and in 19A (8,4,7).

I agree AHearer- that's what I make them.
I agree also, although I didn't even notice the error in 19a till you pointed it out. Also, am I missing something or is the wordplay in 18a incorrect? Depending on how you interpret it, it seems to lead to either no 5th letter or a wrong 5th letter.
Hi drb!

Re 18a - Trend = twice daily oceanic occurrence round first letter of lorry-driver.
First EV I've managed to look at for quite a while and I'm flummoxed. 13a is leaving me completely clueless and I can't find the person eviscerated at 32 across. Any hints or pointers would be much appreciated,
A good challenge this week, tho on first reading I found the preamble totally incomprehensible. Sorry Dr B, but I didn't look too closely at the wordplay in 18a, so was just happy when my answer fitted. I still haven't quite got the stomach for 5d, but the rest is all in place.
Novalis, 13a is also a bridge player of renown.
Novalis: 32a is a mystery author whom I only knew as she is one my wife's favorites.

Re 18a, ah. "implicated" as a container indicator is a bit dicey, I think. I was looking at first letters of all the words in the wordplay, and ran out of words!

Also, welcome back.
well, implicate can mean involve, so I guess I can accept that.
Good Morning All, and very special welcome back to Novalis, all the regulars will be delighted to hear from you. As ever am swimming in mud and have not yet opened the EV but reading the word 'author' in your posts I am feeling I will be expected to manage it this week......oh dear!!
Many thanks for your help dr b and Copelander. I was trying to place 32a's "stomach" in the wrong place and want shooting for 13a. I even managed to miss the "stomach" when I looked through the relevant section of Chambers.
Also many thanks for your welcome back everybody. It's very kind of you. There have been family problems ( now almost resolved ) and being without a router/hub for two weeks didn't help either. I intend catching up with the EVs I've missed without looking at the solutions.
Copelander, do you now have 5d's "stomach"?
Am almost done with the 'normal clues but am having trouble with the nine, full attention being on the jam making rather than the EV - give me a kick start some-one. Have taken heed of the bridge player but cannot connect..............
Hello everyone, especially Novalis. God to see you back. I'm in a similar position to Devadolly at the moment. Haven't really struggled with the 'stomachs' yet - haven't had the stomach for it - apologies, couldn't resist. But will have a go after tea.
Yes, thanks Novalis. sorted out the ( not too difficult ) clue for his tummy. Devadolly and Christiana, some hints have already been given, but another hint .... not all the "stomachs" are actual words.
Thanks. I'm getting there, have several stomachs and duly removed them. Off now to watch Waking the Dead.
Hi all
Welcome back, Novalis - sorry to hear things haven't been so great.
Have managed to complete all except 9D and 33 across. 9D - well I thought I had all the letters except the unchecked one, plus the stomach, but can I make sense of it - NO! No stomach for 33A - does it "run" in the clue?
Hope you enjoyed Waking the Dead, Christiana. It's one of my favourites but I have recorded it for watching in the winter months, which, judging by the temperature here tonight, isn't too far off!
Have now rethought 9d - had got an indian god which was an anagram of the same letters I've used, though am not certain what the "Germanic God" has to do with it. Still no flash of inspiration for 33a so going to call it a night.
In 9D and 33A "unexpected" and "partly" are the constructions.
Hi, am now down to my last one (5d) which is escaping me for the moment.
Typical, I'd hardly finished typing before a great light dawned and I realised what the first name is. So have now finished.
Could anyone please give me another clue for 33A. I've all the checked letters but no stomach and no inspiration either!!
Christina - send me your inspiration, 5d is causing great anguish, as is 9d & 33a - so no help to you ringer!
