historic house and imprisoned wife

A TV documentary - years ago - featured an historic property somewhere in the North of England and told the sad tale of an unfaithful wife who was locked up there by her husband. She may have had a baby. She was declared insane and imprisoned for the rest of her days. I'd love to know which house. Does this ring any bells with anyone at all? Thanks!
