So I just started doing cryptic crosswords about a month ago. I do the saturday toronto star crosswords every week, but the clues do not seem to be original and some dont even make sense. can anyone recommend me good crosswords i could do. i would prefer crosswords that do not use british references or slangs since i am not familiar with the culture. im looking for challenging puzzles that are still somewhat simple to understand. thanks

learning British slang/references is unavoidable if you're going to work cryptics. Think of it as expanding your horizons.

I think the Financial Times puzzles are good ones to start on.
The Guardian crosswords are of high quality, keeping to good crossword rules and they are now free. Offhand I would say there are not too many culture specific references.
