Mint
Question Author
thanks kayak, I can see finest - mint, but where does shakedown come in?
See Chambers- Mint (3) - An aggressive, threatening movement.
it is Sift
I would agree with sift (sorry, KK !) All have a good Christmas
Sift for sure imho.
Why is it SIFT? :S
Only answer that makes any sense is SILT
My vote is for SILT

Silt is the finest discrete particle obtained in shakedown:

BOULDER, ROCK,STONE,...............,SAND,.......SILT.

Particles smaller than silt homogenise into clays.
