1 down (clue "Headless monster to finish drink at Pat's village*) looks as if ir ought to be "Emmerdale". The "ale" at the end is ok, but where does the "Headless Monster" come in and what does this make 2 across which becomes "?M?A?" (clue "Wide subsidiary route")?
2 across looks as if it ought to be *"BYWAY" but then
1 down becomes "?Y?E?D?L?" and I can make no sense of that! Any help would be gratefully received.

2a broad

1 (O)gre end ale
O+Gre + end + ale
Which would then make the other answer B Road
