There are always 2 answers I can't get just now. May I have help please on 27a - main stroke of letter or musical note, usually vertical (4 letters) and 18d - rules governing use of statements in programming language (6 letters)? Thanks in advance.

thanks pbeach. I must have something wrong because my letters for 27a were ?r?m, with quadrillion being the through word giving the 'r'.
Well, somebody posted -t-m as the clue for this earlier...
Since I don't do this crossword, what was the clue for quadrillion?

it's o.k. pbeach. I realise now that the word running down was quintillion- a number represented as one followed by 30 zeroes. Thanks again.
Could the answer you are looking for be septillion ?
Pardon me, or am I confused? I cant seem to find some of the clues that are asked about. We are talking about the big monday crossword in the Express? Or have I tapped into someone else's stream? Sorry if I have
Hi Bobbie - you'll note that the original question and answers were asked in 2008 to a different crossword in the Big Monday Xword. If that helps with your confusion.
