The consensus seems to be that the answer is HAZEL.

Thanks Didn't think hazel was considered a colour and thought it more yellow brown!
I've found a better answer

FAVEL
Question Author
Many thanks It was my last one Couldn't believe so tricky
Hazel is correct. The Oxford dictionaries confirm this.
Fine. You go with HAZEL then.

I'm sticking with FAVEL which is confirmed by a crossreference to CHESTNUT as being REDDISH-BROWN in CHAMBERS, the dictionary I use.
So I assume you've got Hyena for 15a on the basis that it is a pack animal related to the camel by the fact it eats them.

I take it you have a sense of humour! 15A-llama
I think columbus may have been addressing their remarks to Rollo, Rumbling? Did you plump for Favel, Hazel or even Camel in the end?
Columbus, I could not enter "Hyena" into the grid at 15ac because it just would not fit, no matter how hard I tried to make it fit with the intersecting down answers.

Anyway, we will see if the compiler's answer is Hazel, Camel, Favel or something totally different when the solution is published.

If I got it "wrong" (in that although my answer FAVEL appropriately answered the clue it did not correspond with the compiler's answer) then I am not going to lose any sleep over it. It's just a Crossword Puzzle - not anything important!

:-))
Quite agree - the laugh is that you thought you had found a 'better' answer and that you were sticking with favel even though it was an indirect definition, whereas hazel is a direct definition from the Oxford dictionaries.ROFL.
