�150 if you claim Child Benefit!
It has been reported today that if you claim Child Benefit, you are to receive a payment of �150 (courtesy the taxpayer) to help with energy bills. So if you have children, it doesn't matter how much you earn, apparently you will get this money! When are the middle earners with no children going to get a break? My husband is on a good wage and we manage OK, but I am disabled and, apart from DLA, don't get any other help. Is this a payment fair?

cant see it somehow. Im a mother and i wouldnt think it fair as everyone needs to keep warm. children and most adults can put on extra clothing, exercise more, babies need more blankets etc. The elderly are the ones that need the payments.
If its purely to help with the rising fuel bills that we are all experiencing then perhaps itd be best giving it to all homes based on their size (a reduction in council tax may help there rather than handing out payments)

I realise that other section of the community do have needs. However, the income generated from tax is finite and I certainly don't see that people like me (childless and an earner) should get the 'tax breaks', the scare resource should be spent where it is most needed ie child beneifit, DLA and pension, otherwise the tax might as well not be collected in the first place if all that is going to happen is that it is given back to tax generators.

I agree with you Raggy Woman. My eldest son has worked non stop since he left school, taken about 1 week in sick over a period of 18 years, he still can't afford anyhwere to live and finds himself doing two jobs to survive. Everyone tells him he would be better off on benefit but he wants to work and it should be the other way round, if you work you should be better off but not by sitting on your ar*e all day.

It should be to the elderly full stop, child benefit should be abolished at the earliest opportunity. We live in a society that promotes mass breeding without thought to consequence. As soon as the tax credits stop, people will make more informed decisions and ensure they are able to support a child/children. 2 p worth firmly added
