We are lucky to be flying to Cape Town with Virgin on Christmas Day for my brthday. Just wondered, will all the shops and restaurants be open in the terminal before we fly (worried about my duty free's!). Thanks.

Yes... Heathrow is a 24 hour, 365 day airport. The BAA makes HUGE amounts of cash from travellers spending in shops and restaurants. There is no way they'd give it up for a bank holiday! Rest assured, you can still handover your money at Christmas!
