Here is this weeks Enigmatic Variations

To any EV solver!

I am undertaking the statistics for the Telegraph EV. This is because several people find the timeframe until submission too short and in my opinion there have been some crosswords harder than the listener. It would be interesting to see these statistics and depending on the results may influence this timeframe.

I could never reach the echelon of J Green and it must be stressed I don't submit the EV and never will do. So I have no interest other than seeing how we fare.

E-mail a scanned copy/reconstructed typed grid or a list of the answers with the info of the required theme to [email protected] by 6pm on the Wednesday after the EV (i.e. last post). However please e-mail me whenever you have finished as they will be invaluable to the statistics.

Just use any alias and not your name (if you don't want to) or home address. As we generally do with the listener threads hints and tips only on the threads. Comments are most welcome and I will copy this every week, so spread the word.

Regards Midazolam

oh dear - we seem to have last weeks questions attached to this weeks grid

does anyone know who to e-mail at the telegraph?
The only link I have is this one: [email protected]
Midzalom I still only have last weeks questions, but this weeks grid. Any chance of sending me the current questions? The Crossword Society hasnt updated as yet.
I'm in the same situation :-( Health issues have prevented me from going out to buy the paper itself.

It would seem from another post that Rapparee has access to the clues.
The magazine Seven that accompanies the paper has the correct grid and answers. I have stopped submitting completed EVs for 2 reasons. Short response time frame, so no allowance for Royal mail incompetence, and the last few pens are of quite inferior quality, black plastic rather than stinless steel.
Ooops, forgot to mention Kate Fassett is the Telegraph Crossword Editor, which in actual fact was my primary reason for contributing to this thread. However once you have the correct clues it's no good crying about it!
Hello again, I now have a copy of the clues through the kindness of a fellow EVer. DocHH I dont get the paper itself as I live in Portugal and it is a) late b) too expensive and c) incomplete, so I pay for the Crossword Society on line but it goes haywire every few weeks. Oh and I agree about the pens.

Sorry I didn't back to you Chistiana, but I see the correct answers are up.

I have been at the hospital today since 6am as my wife has just had our first baby. After 18 hours in labour we have an 8lb little boy!

this may well eat into my weekly cruciverbalism, but keep sending the statistics and comments through to me

kind regards from an elated father

midazolam
Many many congratulations Midazolam. Theres nothing to beat becoming a mum or dad for the first time, in my opinion. And on fathers day too - such timing!
Oh and I notice the title of this weeks EV is just for you, too!
Midazolam,
Congratulations from me too. I am a new user of AB, but a long term solver of EV! I suspect your new arrival will restrict more than your "cruciverbalism"!
Christiana, my contribution to the thread was not to do anything other than help Midazolam with a contact at ST, and also assist with the statistics to prolong the timeframe for response, plus comment on the pen quality.
Adios, sorry don't know the Portuguese for Ciao!
Yes timeframe is certainly not long enough, given the vagaries of the post. I quite agree about the pens....the stainless steel ones were far superior. Congratulations on the new baby.
midazolam...
what good news...many congratulations!
No problem Doc. The Portuguese is also ciao. My Portuguese is pretty shaky anyway.
Just having a break from marking etc.

Midazolam --- many, many congratulations!!!
Midazolam
Many congratulations to you both! I think they leave home at about age 43 nowadays...............................................

Novalis - you just can't resist that EV can you? Get back to your marking!!

Re said EV, no doubt you had all finished it by Monday 3am whilst I still blunder on, have managed most of it, but am I alone in finding it hard work as in dull?

Regard to all

Devadolly
Hello Devadolly. No you are not alone. I havequite a lot of it done, but am away from home, so no Chambers etc. AND I am also finding it hard work/dull.
Hello Deva and Christiana
Have you both got the unclued 24ac, if not would "A musical noise after a garden building and a replanted flower making you upset" help?
Ciao.
Thanks Doc - yes it helps and has kickstarted me back into action
Hi Devadolly!

Quite right -- I can't resist. I managed to get most of it done ( all but two clues - and they're done now ) in the few breaks I allowed myself between marking. Was fortunate in that I got 24a early on. At the moment I am up to date with it all, but both my computer and team of examiners are telling me ( via emails and phone calls ) to expect a load tomorrow and Friday. The post van will be here at 7:45 but I won't open the parcels until both Telegraph crosswords are done. At least nobody has dropped out this year --- which means I won't get any extra allocation.

Hope you and all EVers are well.
