All i know is his name is John Brendan Boyle as I was placed in an orphanage - St Vincents - Mill Hill when I was about 2 years. My birth mother Norma Jean Gloria Sidoli emigrated to the US and my father who was John Brendan Boyle was at her majestys pleasure. on leaving the orphanage I was fostered into a lovely family but would like to know if my birth father is still alive. Don't have any date of birth details or addresses which i am finding very hard to trace him. He may be deceased now. I know he used to frequent the east end of London so he may have lived there. On my birth certificate it states that my birth parents lived at 431 Caledonian Rd, that's where the info ends. If anyone can help

Hi there,

I know there were 2 John Brendan Bopyles born in England around the same time as each other, one was born 13 Jan 1935 and died in liecester in 1993, the other was born 12 aug 1932 and died in redbridge essex in May 2003. I can look at the birth registration ion the index for you to see where they were born (roughly) also i can look and see if there is a marriage for them, does it say on your original birth certificate that your mother was Boyle nee Sidoli, ?
Question Author
Hi, yes that would be fantastic.
She was nee Sidoli on my birth certificate and they were both registered at caledonian road at the time of registering my birth
morning Chris

I think possibly John Brendan Boyle was born in Ireland, not 100% though, can you tell me the year of your birth if you don't mind, as it will narrow down the search for the marriage.

Hi Dot,
5-10-64
I had a brother 1 year younger (who passed away 14 years ago and was in the home with me) and two older brothers who I didn't really know but I believe are between 4-10 years older - I met them once and never saw them again but they looked between those ages - one was called Anthony or Tony and I think the other was Stephen or Mark
ok that's good enough info to do some serious tracking, will have a go now and see what turns up, catch u later.

Dotty
Hi again
Norma J.G. Sidoli married John B Boyle in the 3rd quarter of 1953 in the registration district of Pancras.

(actually she is recorded in the index as Norman J.G. Sidoli, but that is obviously a typo when the index was compiled.
you should be able to get the certificate quite easily from the register office that covers Pancras or direct from the Family Records Centre. In the local register offices they can go straight to it now just with the names and it only costs 7.00, mind u it depends where you live of course as to how easy it is for you to get it.
Norma J.G. Sidoli's birth was registered in the first quarter of 1933 in Finsbury registration district and her mothers maiden name was Grassi the ref is finsbury 1b 673
Norma's parents were Antonio Sidoli and Celestina M. C. Grassi and their marriage was registered in the Holborn District in the 3rd quarter of 1928 ref: Holborn 1b 1531.

On the 1901 census return for England there are only 4 people with the surname Sidoli and all lived in London and were born in italy. I will see if i can work out which one is Antonios father.
The Grassi family may well have been Swiss according to preliminary checks of the 1901 census, but of course these families may have come to the UK later than 1901.
last quarter 1953 Anthony Boyle registered Islington 5c 1108 mother's maiden name Sidoli.
Stephen O. Boyle registered 4th quarter of 1963 mother's maiden name Sidoli registered Pancras 5c 564

Christopher M. Boyle registered last quarter 1964 Pancras.

Robert P Boyle registered Islington last quarter 1965 5c 1051 mothers maiden name Sidoli

So Anthony was born 10 years before the next child, Stephen, who was only a year older than yourself. Is it possible that your father was away for a few years maybe?
Dorothy, where do you get your information ???

im asking because i want to trace birth and marriage cretificates for my own family.
i intend to take a trip to London this summer to enquire at the National Records office.

Hi Dot, you are amazing. I have just filled in the missing gap. I had one last brother I believe was John B Boyle (obviously junior) mothers maiden name sidoli Westminster 5c 423
First quarter 1959
This was the last missing offspring of norma & John
and... I have also asked my foster parents who said that my father was in and out of the merchant navy in the earlier years of marriage and perhaps in and out of her majestys prison (they are not sure though) . It would be great also to find out about Boyle/Sidoli/Grassi connections. I would also like to know if my birth father has died. I know Norma is living in Oregon in the US now with her new partner but her parents and ancestors interest me more as she lost contact with them and I believe she may have been the black sheep of the family and maybe disowned her - the way she disowned me when she left me in the orphanage. Thank you so much for looking into this and wait anxiously for more .....
Hi Chris, I love doing this and so no probs, i would say that possibly I have done as much as I can on the 20th century relatives, though I havn't found Antonio Sidoli's birth. The strange thing is, I have found two Antonio Sidolis marrying in the 1930s, your Grandftathe rmarrying your Grandma Grassi in 1928 and another marrying someone with the surname Schiavi in 1931 in the St Martins (London) district, yet neither Antonio can I find a birth for back to 1901, and neither show on the 1901 census in the April.

Perhaps their name was misspelt on the census, so will look and also i'll try to find Celestina Grassi's birth.
Celestina Maria C. Grassi birth registered Q3 1908 at Holborn.
there was an Antonio Sidoli who died in May 1986 reg. islington aged 91 born 13 Apr 1895, his birth is not showing in the index though, which probably means he was born in Italy. This could be one of the two Antonios i have found marrying in 1928 and 1931. Without the civil registration certificates to verify fathers names, it will not be easy to check back further.
Hi Chris
Bit more on the Grassi family, (this needs confirming by getting Antonio and Celestina's marriage to see who her Father was) but I think he was Luigi Grassi who married Luisa Bussandra in the first quarter of 1904 at Holborn.

Neither Luigi or Luisa appear under those names (or variant) on the 1901 English Census. Their marriage certificate will however give alot more info re. both thier fathers and their ages at marriage.
