15a Apron? 22a inroads 31d Leven
Hints for a few of them....

15a Old (GOLF) club = court when court = woo

24d Sack = to force out of a job and the coarse cloth is nowadays more commonly known as an unruly child

28d Another name for one who borrows
I have to disagree with slipnot regarding 31d.

I think it is Reset.....Rest (all the others) round E (east) =

RESET - to harbour
36a Freit...Omen

39a Rameau...Composer
kayakamina, if you're still around, do you have a hint, NOT THE ANSWER, for 18a?
Another flounderer here !..Would appreciate a hint for the unclued light at one down ...
Hint for 18a ...circumference of thickness round ..it's in Chambers . Then you have to look up another definition. Not much good at giving clues though .
shaneystar2 it is an anagram of right
sorry meant bigmac

shaneystar 2 1down goes with 25 down

when you have the theme it is in the list
I am flummoxed ..I have got the theme ( I think !) ..is 25D one of the two gangs ? All I can see for it is Grey ..something ..unless I have something wrong elsewhere .
Thanks for that, shaney and madazolam.

The unclued light at 1d can be found in the same place as the title of the crossword... should become obvious when you have 27a and 41a.

Just imagine the doorstep lenders flying off....
25d is NOT one of the gangs - but you're definitely in the right place
i gave a big clue on cruciverbalist's original link

"love is in the air"

also a clue for 30a another word for slice especially as its national bacon week next week!
Lol...I am sobbing into my gin here ..I have got 41a and 22a .
But I still can't see it . I may be back !
put 41 a into wikipedia and click the third link down in the list at the top and you have your answers
Got it ! Thank you so much .
OK, have you got:

40a8d2d and 5d ?

Together with 41a and the crosword title you shoud have a very clear idea of where you are. What are they all?

Might 1d not be another one?
I'm glad everyone has got there!

I thought I had overdone the hint with my original posting of
'Somehow, Someday (Somewhere) ' and them midazolam came along with 'rumble' !

The Spectator crossword is starting to get a good following thanks to Ulysses who introduced it to us a couple of years back.
Finished it now thanks BigMac ...I just had to look back through the posts though as I had a problem with 12d which didnt seem to go with anything ! But I see kayakamina has sorted it for us . Thanks to you all for your help and to K .for clearing up that odd clue .
Sorry to hijack your post Lezapping ...hopefully from my ramblings and the help from others you are on your way to solving it too. Good luck.
