I have been wanting to propose to my girlfriend now for about 5 years, but she keeps telling me that if i ever propose to her and its not romantic then she will kill me. Problem is i do not have a romantic bone in my body and am really stuck as to how the bloody hell im going to do it, hence why its been 5 years.

We have been together 7 years on 13th of December and i really wanted to try and use this date to do it.

Anyone got any brilliant ideas i can use to wow her off her feet?

How about buying a book she's been wanting to read (a tasteful one!) and carving out a hole, and say you bought the book as an early xmas gift (wrap it up?) when she opens it to read it she'll see the ring!

take her to a hotel and arrange for the ring to be placed on the side , for when she goes in and a card saying marry me
How about putting the ring round your knob :)
it shouldn't be about how you propose thats not what marriage is about really is it? If you're girlfriend isn't pleased with how you ask her to marry you then don't bother!! You shouldn't have to wow her off her feet cos she expects it, if she gets the hump over this then I don't think you will have a very long life together
agree tigwig
I agree with tigwig, but its not always that easy. i have a friend who is the same and turned her boyfriend down the first time. he has since asked again on a beach in Goa at sunset anf the wedding is planned for next year.

presuming Goa is out of your price range there are lots of things you can do

Take her for a posh meal and either propose over champagne, or get the waiter to put the ring in her pudding (make sure she doesn't eat it.

Go on a long walk in the county and propose by a fireside in a cosy pub.

Wrap the ring up as a gift in a shoe box, and write will you marry me in glittery letters on the bottom of the shoe box and tape the ring inside.

Go to Paris for the weekend and propose at the top of the Eiffel tower.

Organise a treasure hunt with the ring at the end of it.

The list is endless, here are some links to some websites with more ideas and proposal stories

However, the most romantic of actions are those that are personal, and to be honest, if you don't have a romantic bone in your body then she is going to smell a rat if you pull something out the bag for this occasion. Think about what you both like to do together and why she fell in love with you and take it from there.

My husband proposed to me in a pub when we were with friends and had had a couple too many drinks. We had just finished eating sausage and mash and he gave me his huge chunky silver ring to wear for the night. I thought it was perfect as it was not planned or staged and we got to celebrate with our mates all night. Bear that in mind when planning something that may end up making you feel a little uncomfortable and false.

If all else fails just make sure you buy a massive diamond, i challenge her to think that is not romantic! <
sorry, last link was wrong, try this one instead - although be warned, it is a little sick making!

I agree with tigwig n i'm female, i know my hubbys not romantic so I proposed to him while we were having a cheap pint in Monday club at wetherspoons! no getting down on one knee, i just siad 'you going to marry me then' and thankfully he said yes it was funny cuz it was so spontaneous! and to top it all we got extremely drunk on cheap beer!
As a woman waiting to be asked myself, I would like my partner to whisk me off to Venice or somewhere really beautiful, I would like him to ask my Dad's permission first and on the day of the big question have my family arrive. Or something like a balloon flight or something totally, totally random, but on a big scale!

Hopefully your only going to do this once in your life, make it something you will never ever forget.

Fireworks are always nice, perhaps with her name incorporated etc.

Good luck,x

Cheers Suade7, sorry but fireworks are a bad idea in my hands. at halloween we had a party and i was in charge of fireworks. they all went wrong flew into the gazeebo which i borrowed off my sis and burnt a big hole in the side of it, whilst almost killing the people that were sat in there.

Last night i cooked a leg of lamb on the BBQ and prepared lots of noce veg ect, but ended up down A&E having stitches in my hand and now cant even type this.

this just sooo isnt working,.
The fact that Mr P had proposed to me was romantic enough.

He came home from work, gave me a kiss and popped the question.

The fact that I had been baking a cake, my hair was a mess and I had flour all over my face and he still thought I was beautiful enough to be his wife spoke volumes.

I think you might be with the wrong gal....
Get some white paper and cut out the letters WILL YOU MARRY ME thread them on cotton and decorate the christmas tree with it after she has gone to bed on Christmas Eve night. Attach the ring to the tree as the 'full stop' at the end of the sentence. It will be the first thing she sees on Christmas morning.
Alternatively by a nice christmas stocking, write the question on paper put it in the stocking with the ring and put it on the end of her bed.
Snow is romantic - hire a snow machine , make it snow in your garden, get down on one knee and ask her?
A good bunch of flowers, delivered as a surprise, then tell her to get changed, and take her for a meal, after the first course, obviously before the second, put the ring on the table and propose.

Alternatively, pre-warn the restaurant, and at a pre-arranged point, (in public), down on one knee and propose.

But its the flowers that'll do it.
I don't really care how my partner proposes to me, even if he just got into bed after coming home from work... Gave me a cuddle and asked if I'd marry him. That would be perfect enough. The idea of being his wife is enough for me :)

But to go out for a meal and put it in a champagne glass would be good :)
Think... where did you first meet, what did you do on your first proper date. And take it from there...
