We are flying longhaul real soon and it wil be a struggle for my husband not smoking - it was bad enough before 1st July but since no smoking in airport building has come in i really dread the airport/plane part of the holiday. He obviously wont smoke cos he's not allowed to but i know he will be SO grumpy. when you add the check in times + flight times i am almost afraid of the thought (i cant contemplate a delay!!). So my question is how do other smoker tollerate this??

Maybe now he's finding out what it has been like for the rest of us having to involuntarily partake in his filthy habit.

The only bad thing about the smoking ban is that it didn't come in to force thirty years ago.
My mum uses patches and inhalators when she travels long haul ~ and she travels a lot!

Obviously she lights up as soon as she can after getting off the plane, but she has said that she is used to not smoking on the plane so it has got easier.

Maybe your husband can look into a nicotine replacement and get some puzzle books!
there are still smoking areas in departure lounges of some airports so he may be ok for any time other than the flight and baggage claim.

gin and temazepam may help; it's hard to sleep on a long flight in economy, so any sleeping aid might do. Could nicotine patches assist on a short-term basis?
Lucy do you ever disappear up your own ar5e?

As I'm sire you are aware smoking is LEGAL, u want it allways, crying about smokers when fatties and alkies cost the NHS more than smokers and you'd soon be crying when your income tax went up by 8 pence
if you think smoking's legal, rev, try it on your next flight... But make sure you're flying over a country with nice jails; if the plane makes a landing in Turkey to hand you over to the authorities, it's Midnight Express and a diet of raw tongue for you...
For years I was informed by ignorant smokers that if I didn't like their smoke, I didn't have to go to the pub, club, on the train, plane etc.

Well now the boot is firmly on the other foot and they are acting like spoilt brats.

Whenever I drive past my local pub and see all the smokers outside, I have a little chuckle to myself. I will chuckle a bit louder when I go past the pub in the middle of February when the temperature is about -3 degrees.
I don't think Im a BusyBees hubby is behaving like a spoiled brat, is he?

he just needs help getting through the flight ~ and the question was asked as such..not asking for a debate about smoking!
driving past the pub Lucy? do you know about exhaust fumes and the enviroment? not to mention the affect it has on those who have to breathe in your filthy fumes???

lol

as pippa says, this isnt a debate on whos a righteous non smoker and who isnt.
I don't start my car in enclosed places such as pubs, offices or other premises.

You walk everywhere do you?
Long Term - Give up and tell him to save his lungs before its to late otherwise you'll be going on holiday alone and wont have to worry about him sulking because he cant puff on a toxic cancerous stick.

Short Term - Get him a bottle of Rescue Remedy - http://www.rescueremedy.co.uk/
No, redcrx has a car.

So do I ~ which is part of the reason why I don't have a go at smokers.

I don't smoke, by the way ;o)
Or take him to Cleethorpes.
I think smokers that say if you dont like my smoke, don't stand near me are inconsiderate. I smoke but I dont begrudge going outside for a fag. I do it at home so why shouldnt I do it in a pub. I haven't been on a long hall flight but I did go 10 hours without smoking at wembley. I just sucked mints. The inhilator sounds like an excellent ideas. Do airports not now have dedicated outside areas?

nsted Airport is ready for the national smoking ban, which comes into force on Sunday. Designated areas are being provided on the terminal forecourt and other areas for smokers following the introduction of the smoking ban.

Find out where you are planning on flying from, I reckon there will be somewhere for him to go.

It's not much help, but whenever I have been on a long haul flight and can't smoke I tend not to be too bothered, when I'm on the way out anyway! Really excited about the holiday so not being able to smoke doesn't bother me.... the way back is another matter though when I am stressed and pi55ed off about coming home - all I can say is good luck!
Like I said Lucy are you sure you dont disappear up your own ar5e?
Wow what a b!tch Lucy Thomas sounds like!
She is the kind of person I wouldnt want to associate myself with!
Lucy has some issues. I bet she hates all men too.
Reverand (sic). The word is actually Reverend but I digress.

I can see that you clearly have anger management issues. There are people who can help you. Look in the Yellow Pages.
I always though reverandfunk was a play on words.
