I have read on the internet that the average Western person owns 10,000 objects. Another source quotes 25,000 objects. Is there an authoritative figure based on research?
( I note that when the artist Michael Landy crushed everything he owned in his project entitled Breakdown', the total item count was 7,006)

Surely any figure based on the statisitical average of a sample population is in no way authoritative.
Do I count individual nails and screws?
I am a millionaire!
We have a 200'+ drive 18' wide that has a 2" surface of shingle.

Legitimate answers (thanks) but they don't really get me much further forward. I'm trying to get an idea of roughly how many objects we're likely to own, not including repeats like screws or forks!
