Immigrants have better work ethic than Britons

Supermarket giant Sainsbury's has said it will continue to employ more immigrant workers due to their 'superior' work ethic. It said they are more willing to work and are satisfied with their duties more easily. They said their work motivations are different - wanting to learn English or send money home. What do you think? Are we lazy and easily bored in our jobs? Should we be working harder and be being more diligent?

Do you not think the amout of hits you receive per hour might be an indication of the work ethic in this country of some of its people?

On one hand if it means the shelves are better stacked when I go in after work then I personally don't care who they employ.

On the other should we really need to import workers to do this type of work. I am all for employing foreign dentists to fill a gap in specialist positions but we have plenty of people of our own to fill these jobs.

So ALL immigrants have a better work ethic than ALL of us already here (which is what your append seems to imply).

There are hard working law abiding immigrants, and there are also lazy, skiving, criminal immigrants.

But there are also hard working "English" people, and there are also lazy, skiving, criminal English people.

Some immigrants are willing to work hard, many immigrants are not willing to work hard and live off benefits, or criminal activities (or both).

It is not all good news.

Sainsburys, like any other employer who employs immigrants will do so because they know they will work their arses off for peanuts

One of the dangers of considering what immigrants are like is not what they are like NOW but what they and their children will be like in 10 years, or 20 years time.

If you see many of the black West Indians who came over in the 1950s and 1960s they were well dressed, well spoken, god fearing, and would work hard for their money.

What have we got now with a large number of their black children (and their children's black children).

There is high unemployment amongst black boys, low academic achievement, and many black children in broken homes (often with no father contributing financially).

We have black gangs terrorising the streets, pushing drugs, shooting anyone who gets in their way, stealing phones, other mugging and crimes.

Also the large number of Black people (and their inner city areas) has given a hiding place for the Yardie gangsters to come over from the West Indies and get involved in crime.

Their are currently over 2000 West Indian people in English prisons whole have been arrested trying to smuggle drugs in to the UK (drug mules). And how many never get caught?

The legacy of those Black West Indians coming here in the 1950s and 60s is now coming back to haunt us.

I'll ask you this - you know all the black people who do normal jobs and pay taxes - are they just waiting to grab a machete and rob you, or are they freaks?

Yes, by and large a great deal of the immigrant population have better work ethics, especially in the service industries where they still manage to smile at you, talk to you in a civil manner and don't expect something for nothing.

Whatever their motivation might be, they certainly are teaching us 'natives' a thing or two about how to act in the workplace. We have become a nation of complainers, and we really haven't got much to complain about in the UK.

I wonder how many of the immigrant workforce would actually think to chat on the internet in their worktime!

I'm sure we'll be reminded of how we invited them over to 'do the jobs we didnt want' in 50 years time.

I'm not sure if the average factory worker is able to gain free and unfettered net access all day long. Maybe this is why the internet service provided by libraries is heavily utilised by foreigners
