Any witches that were around in this time probably used similar spells and potions (for lack of a better word) as modern day witches. I don't know that there really was such a huge population of witches though, purely because of the church. Most of the women (and men) tried and put to death as witches did nothing more controversial than be old (shock!) independent (gasp!) or throw a few herbs into their stew...
