Northern Lights not sure how you get 5 and 7 letters

Thats all I can find its definitely 5 and 7 letters. The letters I have got are -E -R- / D-N-E-S nobody else seems to have asked the question so presumed i must be a bit thick. Thanks anyway for your response.

Thanks MLN:RUGBY been looking for ages. Don't think I would have got that in a month of Sundays.
Merry Dancers is the name given by the Scots to the phenomena

Thanks for the explanation, when I was given it by MLN:RUGBY I looked in my dictionary and it wasn't listed but as it fitted in with the letters I had I went for that. I was sure MLN:RUGBY was spot on. Generalist Crossword sent off.

look underthe section on Aurora folklore ... and near the end of this section the bit starting ... In Scotland, the northern lights were known as "the merry dancers" or na fir-chlis.

You may find it in a Scottish dictionary ....

Thanks once again, clicked on your reference and found I had already been on that site. Read it all this time and found the words Merry Dancers. A lesson for me read all through it next time. Thanks for your trouble I like to know where people find these things.
