This will look like a VERY strane question to anyone not sharing my hobby of aircraft spotting, anyway......

Driving past Aqaba airport in Jordan last week (on the Israeli side of the border), I say a Boeing 747 sitting in the haze.

Too far away to identify, but I am wondering if someone out there can help out??

It didn't seem to have any obvious markings - just a blue tail..

Thanks

Could be an El Al 747 in the superceded colour scheme. They've used Aqaba on several occasions before now, and there's just recently been an agreement signed between Israel and Jordan whereby the Israelis will close the airport located in a built-up area at El At, and instead use Aqaba airport as the entry point for the resort of El At.

Closing Eilat airport? - That's be a shame. It's in a great location (unless you live there, of course!). On the other hand, Aqaba is MUCH closer than Ovda (despite being in a different dountry!)

The 747 was in a darker blue colour than the old El Al c/s though, so probably not one of those.
I am suprised to hear that the israelis and jordanians have managed to agree on anything.EL AL being the most paranoid airline in the world, and the israeli border control, being the most laid back people on the planet, not. I wouldnt be travelling back to find out just yet though phil.
