I had an interest free credit agreement and paid a lump sum as advised by the retailers and the final payment was made on time. the company then took another payment and said we still owe. after contradictions bye the company, they have now come back after 10 months saying we missed a payment, and it thought what happened to the past 9 months we assumed that all all was sorted. I was advised that payment was 69 pence short they did not say this 10 months previously they then advised me that they had used the lump sum to continue paying the monthly payments. How do I stand on this one

I would ask the company for a copy of their records showing the date payment received and the amount recieved, tell them you need this to check against your own record. They will either send you a record then you can check if in error you have made a mistake, or the company will back down and admit a mistake.
