November issue: All are Scottish words, terms or slang and also could also be regional Scottish terms or variations only used in specific geographical areas. Due to difficulty and often many variations of spelling, some of my adjoining letters might be in error.

2d. A mess (9,6) (15) A?N?C?E?? M????N

5d. Death throw (3,4,5) T?E ???D ?HR?W

Possibly something like THE DEID THRAW but can't find anything like it.

8a. Father (4) ???D

17a. Make trim (5) ??CE?

19d. Secret (4) ??R?

20d. A dodge (4) ??N?

I suspected JOUK but it can't be if the N is correct

26a. Rowdy celebration (6) ?????N

I suspect RANDAN (giving the letter N for 20d

Many thanks

Thanks for all input and help

Neveracrossword: Thanks for your help with 5d. Could you add a link or reference to it as I can't find anything like it.

Thanks

Thanks, Elliemay. I can't do links, but was just about to suggest John looked at Merriam Webster, online - I found info there.

20 jouk is probably correct, what gave you the N?

joukin [ˈdʒukɪn]: Dodging, evading.

Question Author

Thanks Elliemay1 - I believe 26a. RANDAN is correct and 20d. is JINK

JINK allows RANDAN to be correct too

For 20, Jink still seems fine - to turn quickly, move or dodge nimbly.

Sorry, I didn't read all the info!

8a Think it's Deyd ?

In this Scottish Dictionary it gives:

//

DEYD, DEYDIE, n. Also dido.[dəid(i) (see P.L.D. § 126.2); dəido]

1. A grandfather (Abd. 1932 Mr Birnie W.-L.; Bch. (coast) 1948 (per Abd.27), both forms).

2. A grandmother (Bnff. 1927 (per Bnff.2)).//

^^ didn't fully post but answer was deyd for father, sometimes

grandfather.

Well done Hazlinny!

Ellie/Though being Scottish, these are not every day words/expressions here!!

JohnT - do you now have the answers from SF for the ones whch were puzzlers last time?

Thanks for that, Hazlinny - my wee dictionary had only 'grandfather... and sometimes grandmother', no dads!

17a  Only thing to suggest would be dicht but not using letters given.  Really means to wipe, clean.
