Bobbin... it's a jigsaw puzzle type crossword, so you can't start putting entries into the grid until you have a decent amount of answers. It's only then that you'll have ??a??b or whatever for another answer.

Question Author

With answers to 4 and 6, I may be able to attempt to fill the grid, thanks!

6 Fanatical.

4 Starts with C, cold, and AC, air conditioning, then a 6-letter word for annoys, sparks an interest...

Question Author

A confirmation for the following, thanks!
13 Abandoned hope, like the Lib Dem? (7) OPHELIA
23 Explosive fervour about artificial intelligence corrupting (8) VOLATILE?
12 Jackie wisely eating fruit (5)  ACKEE
25 Spirited women brought back 14 – Jen's chasing (6)  GERWIG
26 Slug turned to clumsily grope entertaining toy (6)  FUMBLE

Sorry, Matakari, those are all wrong!  In quite a few, you're ignoring the alpahbetical order instruction again!  For example, Jackie... is halfway through the list, so couldn't possibly start with A.

thats a relief NAC as I couldnt see any case for any of them answers except that ackee is a fruit

Ok, a few hints for me to work through them before I hit the sack to be refreshed for a more palatable Spectator.

12- is it not just hidden in clue (after  losing a letter)

Matakari, it took four reminders (from various ABers) of the alphabetical stuff last time - I don't know if I could face another round of that!

A good hint would be to look at the answers you have for clues near the latest batch. If you have words beginning C  and F, say, the clue you're stuck on will begin with C, D, E or F. That might help your thinking, your focus.

Bobbinwales, thanks - and yes to the answer to 'Jackie...'  !

Matakari, you got your wish for the 'palatable' Spectator puzzle, I see!

i assume eds not around as I reported the spam straight away

Bobbin... I reported it too, ages ago.

Good Thursday morning, NACW and bobbinwales! Having a ball with Doc's "Playtime", I've only just started and am almost through! And yes, my wish has been granted! I'll be back later for the Genius!

Thanks for the update, Matakari. You can imagine how delighted I was with Doc today... I think you'll be returning to the Genius pretty soon!

Question Author

Ok, NACW, back to where we left off yesterday! Hints would be welcome for these that I had wrong and I’ll be on the qui vive for the alphabetical aspect of it this time. Many thanks in advance!

13 Abandoned hope, like the Lib Dem? (7)
23 Explosive fervour about artificial intelligence corrupting (8)
12 Jackie wisely eating fruit (5)
25 Spirited women brought back 14 – Jen's chasing (6)
26 Slug turned to clumsily grope entertaining toy (6)

I thought we'd explained KIWIS

Matakari, are you reading all our responses in a rush? You keep missing posts that help you!

28 The 'slug' is beer. You need a three-letter 'grope' and four-letter toy (mainly for girls), which loses a letter.
