Matakar, you have quite a few errors.

#11 While-ere

20 Treens

31 Excision

21 Womand

15 Alcaydes

The endgame is very Chalicean...

25 Rheotome

PS If you parse these yourself, it will add to your skills (and I'm too lazy this morning!)

Question Author

Thanks! My parsing of the answers proved useful. I’m accustomed to a gentler Chalicea, though. Learning some new terms here! This batch should help to propel me closer to the end game. Thanks again!

29a Disapproving sound, mostly empty, of hollow roaring nature ( 5 ): ???M?

2d Regularly used ethereal source of gingili oil ( 4 ) : ?EEL

3d Ancient affliction overturned in gene therapy ( 4 )  ?E?E

9d Old English tomb for historical colony’s founder ( 6 ) : ?EC?S?

12d On the spot, observe, it’s said, child’s available ( 8, 2 words ): I??E????

16d Lechery and untruths, primarily not, in America, honesty ( 6 ) L?N?R?

29 Boomy

2 teel

3 Tene

9 oecist

12 in season

16 Lunary

Glad I set you on your way, glad JJ helped with the second batch.

PS If there's a third batch, you might have to consider giving up on EVs!

Question Author

Ok, NACW, just these last three before I consider throwing in the sponge!

22a Retrograde bardic utterance of boisterous emotion becomes an expression of surprise ( 3 ): ?O?
10d Cleaning out local and staff ultimately looking on ( 6 ) : FEY???
17d Intermittently gasping, one man gets partial privation of breath ( 6 ) : AS??E?

17   Apnoea

17   Alternate letters gasping one man

22 ooh

10 (staf)F - eying

Thanks, Matakari - you'd better not 'throw in the sponge' after all the help you're getting! I remain optimistic re the end game, by the way...

Question Author

Happy I did not abandon! The end game delighted me as I suddenly discovered the author of the quotation and the two neighbours. And to put this to rest now, a confirmation of the following would be highly appreciated!
23a Likewise in the past, alas, not later accepted ( 3 ) ARS
30a Distraught hospitals rejecting maladroit split in calls expressing derision ( 4 ): HAAS
24d Bread for South African enclave, Italy supporting large quantity ( 4 )  ROTI
26d In Holyrood expression of weariness; very hard welcoming EC ( 4 ) HOCH

Hech not hoch?

Sorry, Matakari, those are all wrong!

EC in HH.

Not sure what leads you to an O

Matakari, I am glad you enjoyed 'discovering' the source of the quotation.

40 Is a subtractive anagram (I thought you liked those?) Take 'split' from 'hospitals' and juggle what's left.

24 The 'bread' is money.

Matakari, I hope you have managed to sort out that last batch - then you can declare the puzzle well and truly done!

Question Author

Good morning, NACW, I hope I’ve got it all sorted out now. For the two requests above, I’m seeking confirmation. Many thanks in advance!
24d Bread for South African enclave, Italy supporting large quantity ( 4 )  ROTI
( The BRB gives me: Unit of weight of variable amount…)
23a Likewise in the past, alas, not later accepted ( 3 ) ARS
( If this is correct, how is it parsed? )
And one of the two neighbours is SARATOGA?

Morning, Matakari.

24 Still isn't Roti - it's Loti, a currency used in Soth Africa. It's Lot, large quantity, with (supporting) I for italy.

23 Als, likewise (old term, maybe obsolete,) Alas, in the clue, loses the second A, a for accepted ((nit later accepted).

... and 'yes' to Saratoga.

Question Author

Many thanks again, NACW! Very interesting parsing, indeed, for these two! With a little more patient research, I should have found LOTI. Nevertheless, I’m  happy to have stuck to this one to get an insight into Chalicea’s technique! We’ll be meeting her again, this time in the Crossword Centre for October, with a puzzle entitled  STRAUSS WORK? A musical theme perhaps?
