Good evening, NACW guessed correctly, Doc’s “Enzed scorers” was very Matakari-friendly as he continued his stroll to the end of the alphabet. This gives me more zeal to return to the more formidable and challenging Genius while I wait for this week’s Eye Crossword. Meanwhile I’m seeking some hints to the following Genius clues. The numbering of the clues is mine. Many thanks in advance!
(Each letter of the alphabet appears at least once at the end of the solutions
to these clues, which are to be fitted in the grid jigsaw-wise wherever they will go. )

3 Approaching cycle close, crossing over old unoccupied tramway (4,4)
6 Bullet first found by an old weapon (8)
7 Calculate that this shortly might be represented by V&A? (7,2)
20 Mr O. Eliot won something to start with, having returned a toy or ornament (9)
17 Half-heartedly glad to admit retired volunteers with dog to make hot food (4,5)

13 is an anagram of Q&As
Question Author
Thanks, JJ109 for 13, but I do not follow the anagram bit. Is it lively to be anagrammed? I've just categorised my clues by number of letters before attempting to slot them in. But I'm still flummoxed by the following for which I would appreciate answers, then hopefully I will be on my way to complete the jigsaw saw on my own. These are 1, 7, 10, 15, 17, 30
'lively' is the anagram indicator.....
Matakari, for 13 simply anagrams QandAs!
Mtakari, for 30 you need a 9 letter answer (split 3,6) and the first three words of the clue add up to 9 letters...

Matakari, let us know how you get on with the jigsaw - you might find that part fun.
1 thought Roslyn gave a good clue but.....

(Native) American (tribe) = 6 around a 2 letter abbreviation for a certain University

7 AV????? UP

10 again a very good clue was given. It is reversed in the clue but you have to take a D out of the sequence of letters. It means sweet (musically)

15 definition exterior, if something is not in it is ??? + a four letter word reversed. If you put the other clues into the grid, you will see this one straight away!
Question Author
Good morning! Many thanks, JJ109 and Roslyn, for the hints. Before I attempt what promises to be a very exciting grid fill, I would like to ascertain that my answers are all correct for the following, thank you:

1: SIX + 2-letter abb for a certain university. What is the university?
7: AVERAGE UP
10 CLARION
13 NASDAQ
15 OUTWARD
17 MEAT CURRY
30 TWO OUNCES
20 STORM… How far back to complete this?
21 Old English light engineers find work (6) OEUVRE
Yes to oeuvre
Matakari, glad all the generous hints are paying off!
For 1 - OU, Oxford University

10 Is definitely not Clarion - readinf back in the clue, as mentioned several times, gives Melodic
Yes melodic...thought we'd got that one awhile ago
20. The answer has 9 letters therefore go back 9-5 = another 4 letters
Question Author
Many thanks again, JJ109 et al, I see where I needed to go for 20.
Are the others correct?
7, 13, 15, 17, 30 and 21 are all correct
Matakari, glad you're getting there - and looking forward to you tackling the 'very exciting grid fill'!
Question Author
Grateful again, JJ109! The elusive 20= SNOWSTORM
And 1 = SIOUX?
Yes, NACW, I'm excited to tackle the grid fill now.
Thanks, Matakari - and I too am excited for you to tackle the grid fill, it'll be good for you to have a fun part of the puzzle! The clue-solving doesn't seem to have been fun.
It mght be third time lucky, next month's Genius could be more your thing!
Question Author
The fun part has only just begun! My list of words reveals that
I do not have three words ending with B, F and U, so the excitement
now starts and I'll keep you abreast of proceedings.
Matakari, I'm surprised - I thought AB had helped with just about every single clue! The U one is a French word, the F one is two words, and the B one begins with A.
Question Author
No, NACW, I got quite a few on my own, but obviously I went astray somewhere, but I'll get there and thanks for your input here. It grows more and more thrilling after all!
