Thanks ProfessorM.
I had Ebbs but could not parse it.

Still some ways to go.

Do misprints give an English title?
BE (reversed 'to [the] left') for ''take place' + B.S. for the rude 'rubbish'.
It's in French but it sounds like English - at a stretch!

Thanks.
I have 6 letters missing so French title will be difficult.
What word in 12a has the misprint and is 3d an anagram?
12a for UN it's US.
3D is a partial anagram of FUN plus 3 letters for 'former'/past.

Just kept on googling the misprints I had and found the title of a famous Mom.

Also got 3d.
You've got it, hankir.

Thanks ProfessorM.
I have 3 of the 4 in perimeter. Do not have SE corner yet.
I wish I had the book to make it easier to find the 15 letter character.
The two unchecked letters in that corner are Ls.
The preamble would be clearer if it read, 'Solvers should identify another of the characters (15, four words) by highlighting eight cells' because they're repeated words that form a circle of 8 cells.
... the wiki entry should help.

Thanks ProfessorM.
All done.
7d Dragging old woman round ought to tip (6) HA?IN?

Can't see the character to be highlighted...help please
HALING (NIL = 'ought' [reversed] in HAG).
Look for an 8 letter circle in the middle of the grid and read it through twice.
Thank you ProfM
Hi all, still struggling with 33d. And 35a. - grid full apart from that. I've googled the corrected letters in many ways and the first 4 I have are FOTS which I can explain, e.g. roo(k)f with pigeons = loft. Is it French? Is 'Gousset' part of the corrections? Any hints greatly appreciated! Thank you
Yes, French (of a sort).
It's Mot ('rooM with pigeons') and gousseS.
33d LAS(s) reversed
35a 'reSister' = ANTI [losing 'c' from ANTIc].
...sorry, Mots... ...gousses.
Thanks so much Professor M, appreciated! Have a good Sunday afternoon!
Thanks, Slugabed - hope you do too.
