Before I start to trawl through Amazon, Argos et al, does anyone know if windy-up ladies' (lady's') wristwatches are still out there or are they all battery?...the cheaper the better and I hope I haven't used a misplaced apostrophe! Ta Muchly and Keep Well.

And you'll find that if low cost is important, quartz (battery) watches will be cheaper.
Personally, I'd be suspicious of any inexpensive mechanical watch!

Woodelf, I completely agree with gingejbee. There is absolutely no sense in buying a cheap mechanical watch; buy yourself a quartz watch. Rownwitch, it's sort of a myth that a mechanical watch, or clock, will not work because it's "over wound". The spring which is wound up provides the power to the mechanism, and if the clock/watch doesn't run there is something amiss amongst all those moving parts within the mechanism.
Well, JD, I certainly hope that after going home from the pub he didn't decide to sit at his work-bench and dismantle an 8-day time/strike/chime clock movement. Each of those three large springs in the clock have enough power to render major damage to unwary, and drunken, fingers!...Anyway, goodnight as my favourite TV programme is coming on shortly...Columbo.
These are at the cheaper end...
