There's a word bugging me as to the boo that I am writing.

I have just finished a chapter on the various symptoms of dementia and how they can manifest themselves, quite a collection in what can come out. Now I want to show how my mother's story has played out to give context to the above - and that it underpins that every patient has a different profile.

It's a synonym for a written story, not 'illustration or illustrative but a similar word and I can't remember it or find it on a synonym search. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Narrative?
'Narrative' might indeed fit the bill but I'd probably prefer to use 'account'.
Chronicle ?
Chronicle, or Allegory ?

Just found it and the Builder has it 'allegory' or 'allegorical' being what I want to use......thanks all....
ate you sure you mean allegory?
Question Author
yes..... a literary device, an allegory is a metaphor in which a character, place or event is used to deliver a broader message about real-world issues and occurrences - in this case, my mother's dementia symptoms and history (with some humour) used to underpin the wide gamut of potential dementia symptom groups out there (and defined in my forthcoming book) and to get those interested to start questioning/probing if they have a friend or relative with cognitive issues.
I think its an exemplar rather than an allegory but its your book
I was thinking of 'case study' but I can see why you chose 'allegory'
Question Author
thanks ff, it's wider than a case study as it's not quite as direct......
thanks to all though....anyway, my Ed will take me apart if I am wrong and he's been a pro writer for the Beeb play and comedy teams....
