to resolve is to finish, so the finish (d) 'is deserting' CHIL(d) - the 'minor'.

...perhaps 'completion' is a better synonym for 'resolution' - the last letter of CHIL(d) is its 'resolution' - and it's this letter (d) that is 'deserting'.
