Welcome to Title Builder Beta.

This small piece of kit is designed to make building your Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle question more effective. It should make finding your question easier for others and, the easier it is to find, the more likely someone is to answer it!

To build an easy to find question title simply select the paper and quiz, enter the quiz number if relevant and fill in the Publication Date. Once you’re happy click “Build Title” and the information should populate the Title field. Fill in the final required details of your question as you normally would, and click submit.

As this is a Beta we only have a limited number of papers and quizzes listed. If you think your favourite Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle should be listed here don’t hesitate to contact us.

Remember: You do not have to use the title builder - simply enter the title and question as you normally would and click submit!

I was absolutely loving this crossword, but then got to the point where I'd completed the grid, used exactly the letters given and identified exactly ten targets of the specific kind - but only used 56 cells. Cue mild panic for a few minutes until I saw what I'd neglected to highlight. I really like the entry method, which seemed daunting at first, but slowly let me burrow further and further into the grid. I think I'm ready to forgive Poat for that damned H**E!

I agree that the entry method wasn't as tricky as it first appeared. It took me a while to get going, with a fair bit of cold solving to begin with, but the grid fill gathered momentum quite nicely once I'd got some answers in. My initial fears that there wasn't enough checking turned out to be groundless.

I complicated the endgame for myself by not fully appreciating the implication of one of the instructions, but it all came together neatly after I realised my error.

I'm sure that one of the answers was a deliberate choice by Poat!

Very entertaining. It took me back to my youth and playing the board game Black Box. I presume that was Poat's source of inspiration.

My first thought on seeing the setter was to not even bother with this one, as I am still seething over the long eared abomination.

Although this was undeniably tough, once I'd started entering things everything became logical and the ending was totally unambiguous. Spotting the bon mot early on helped enormously. Thanks Poat, almost (but probably never fully) forgiven.
