Ooops - it was Neveracrossword's answer I was reading. Well done both of you - too tricky for me. Maybe one day.....
I don't know about Jackdaw, but I did this crossword whenever it appeared - so didn't have to start from scratch to solve it!

I used to do them but when I got to the stage where I could complete the Times in 10 minutes flat I got bored. I only used to buy the paper for the crossword.

Well, I complete The Times a couple of times a year (usually I get 1/2 - 2/3 in 60-90 mins) - so I'm not at all bored yet, and I'm still keen to learn. I'll bear that 10 minute pitfall in mind when I can finish it regularly in
