Thanks all. Just left with 37ac now and have an extra letter- it's now G?I?T. I can get glint, guilt and grift but can't parse any of them, also grist but that was the answer to 39ac. Suggestions?

Thanks all for help on geist. Looks right to me, so finished this crossword at last. Saw reference to brewer in the heading of the crossword, also in Seanod's response. I hadn't heard of it and couldn't find it. Can someone please reply with a link to the online version?

Thanks ML. Very interesting. I've never seen anything quite like this before. There's a link to different formats in your link including PDF so I've been able to download it now. Useful if it's out of print.
