Hoyle?
Lynne ?
I thought the actual puzzle may help anyone answering the question.

Not a puzzle I attempt.

Sorry if it didn't make sense.
I was looking for the clue to give the number of letters, but apparently it is part of the theme.

Unfortunately anyone offering to help me must have completed the crossword. In the preface it states that two clued lights form an anagram of the name associated with the theme. I had assumed that the theme was 'cards' but may well be wrong. Any help much appreciated!
If the theme is cards then Edmond Hoyle applies. Check my link.

Thanks dannyk13. I've filled in 90% of the grid and Edmond Hoyle doesn't seem to be there so I think I may well have the wrong theme.
Is Hoyle there at all?
It's Bonaparte ..17d and 35d to be shaded . anag of (ebon and at par) Theme is Napoleon.Three card games ,three coins ,three battles .
Shaney, how does "according to" fit in with Napoleon?
"According to" ..is not on my grid or in the preamble .
OK, wonder where that came from.Threw me out completely.
I really do not understand wht you require - all I can think of is GARP
as in "The World according to Garp"
JJ see post at 15.10
I think what has caused confusion here is the simple lack of a '?'

Shaneystar has sorted it.
I spotted that already - but as usual, I originally did not scroll down far enough and only went to the advert above that post.
I must be thick, but I still do not see how "according to" relates to Napoleon.
Farrwest wondered if the phrase 'according to' lead to the answer.
