last few.
Comedians filling with ego on stage.(3,5) The ***n*
Way around an ancient land(4) E***
Rough breeches worn by a king (6) *o***e
The last one about rough breeches is a tad more uncertain than the others so if the letters need changing I won't be surprised.
Also one slight query. O, love a duck(7) I am sure my answer is right but is the second letter an o or an a?
Thanks in advance.

Edom?

Merci. I can now watch the cricket with equanimity.
O, love a duck------- nothing
How do you get nothing for 18 down please. I have ??U?H?? (Maupassant) and Hilarion (who was definitely in princess ida)
I don't have the crossword but I can see a triple definition,
O = nothing
love (tennis) = nothing

duck (cricket)= nothing.
O, love and duck are synonyms of nothing
MRA, a possible answer if you are certain of your crossing letters could be "noughts"
I don't dispute that but cannot get it to fit in! I have U for the T and H for the I - was wanting alternative answers for 21 across (Maupassant = Story writer's maiden, cheerful fool ie UP-ASS trapped by a soldier) and American dropped from funny (Hilarious) knight's part in Princess Ida (Hilarion)
I have already replied saying that "noughts" would fit the clue and your letter pattern.
sorry missed that while I was framing that last question! Have now spotted that. Many thanks
No problem, pleased to help.
Question Author
Sorry, have been away watching cricket. Thanks for noughts vs naughts. The gloss is impeccable.
