Please help explain 2 clues.26 across.Clue is: Coach some of them? 5 letters.I have T?A?N.It must be TRAIN but how does that fit with "some of them"?
28 across.Clue is:A bit sooner.6 letters.I have R?T?E?. It must be RATHER, but how does it work with "a bit"? Any help much appreciated.

26a Train    double meaning a train has coaches

28a Rather double meaning.  def adverb a small amount or sooner=rather than. Sooner(rather) have.
a coach is part a of a train?
could be a rather large bit.
I see what you mean though- it was rather cold doesn't sound to me as if it means a bit cold
