So many old sitcoms are being remade at the moment and I wondered why very few new ones are being commissioned.
I can't think of any situation that hasn't already been done - that could be the reason.

All I can think of is a a cruise ship but that would be very Hi Di Hi. Have you got any ideas?

How about a sitcom about Mr Ed and AB?
Not really, but I'm looking forward to 'young' Hyacinth !
Question Author
That would be good, Cupid. I see ABEd as a frazzled man, pulling his hair out.
There are plenty of characters here to make a series :D
Question Author
I'm looking forward to that, too, jambutty.
On BBC1 there is a remake of Are you being served. And at 9.30 an updated version of Porridge.
Question Author
I'll be watching those. cupid. Are You Being Served was written by Derren Litten who wrote Benidorm and many of the cast have also appeared in Benidorm.
I thought all these new/old sitcoms were one offs and not new series..Maybe if any of them are any good they may commission more. The audiences are changing all the time so if the writers are running out of ideas this is the easy way to do it.
Question Author
There is even a remake of Alf Garnett.
Question Author
That's right, BD. I know that if the reviews of AYBS are good, Litten and the cast are hopeful for a full blown series.
I'd also love to see Hyacinth as she is now with maybe Sheridan visiting her and Richard !
Alf Garnett is BBC4 on Thursday at 9pm

I think Still Open All Hours is good. Not brilliant, but good. Of course that is written by Roy Clarke who wrote the original Open All Hours.
I'd also like OFAH to be revisited, that was my all time favourite.
Question Author
There was a short episode of OFAH in the 2014 Sport Relief. A new episode would be good, I would like to see Damien taking over from Delboy.
My favourite of all time was 'Drop the dead donkey.' Not sure it was classed as a sitcom but very funny in my opinion!
Question Author
I liked Dead Donkey, too. Does anyone remember Dream Stuffing?
Not recently ;-))
Question Author
:D
I loved drop the dead donkey also I can't remember that bit of which you mentioned with in it though. Of all sit-com of which i'd never like to see a re-make of i'd think of porridge the banter between Ronnie and godbar is brilliant.
Question Author
Porridge doesn't have a theme tune. I don't know if it is the only tv series without one.
