I think it's SLOT (LOTS) backwards. As in DOG SLOT.
Question Author
I hate it when I do that in haste. Let's say an anagram!
stol from stol van de kempen (malinois dog) ???
That works with recalled. Thank you, Roslyn
I thought of SNOT, TONS reversed, but I've never heard of a bogie being called a dog.
Could it be snot?
from the xword club website where quite a few have 1 mistake:
27a will be your mistake- 'Dog' is being used in a (barely used or therefore known) slang sense. Nice puzzle otherwise. .............

????
maybe it is SNOT then??
Arrgggh!
in a gearbox, dog teeth are slotted
SPOT, Tops is lots?
It looks like SNOT is correct. ODO online has an alternative meaning of "a contemptible or worthless person" i.e. dog.
It might be STOP as in prevent. POTS backwards.
