Good evening all

I was looking on Amazon for copy of A Bridge Too Far by Cornelius Ryan; one seller has a hardback second hand copy in good condition for £4.11 but further on has a copy in very good condition at £984.37

The good copy is described as "Clean Copy With Light Amount of Wear" whereas the very good copy is described as "...with Small Signs of Wear. Possibly minor highlighting." which actually sounds less appealing than the cheaper copy

I have seen this loads of times, even when a new copy is available at a much lower rate - does anyone know why?

I always think that they've out the decimal point in the wrong place. I steer clear of the daft, higher price.

Unless it's a First Edition or something like that.
The market place seller offers it at the price he wants but I often think one seller has two market place accounts making the cheaper offer look a real bargain.

I see the seller of the £984 book is in Canada, maybe there is a mix up in the exchange rate.

It's the same seller for both books hc4361

Chrissa, For £980 extra I would want a first edition, signed in the authors blood on paper made from wood pulp from the One True Cross bound in unicorn leather, even then I'd think it a bit pricey lol
I understand some have programmes that monitor and set prices, so sometimes you can see sky high prices as two compare their price with another and figure they can add a bit.

Meanwhile not everyone has the same idea of new or nearly new or whatever. I've bought books that whilst expectable were clearly not the category claimed. IMO some sellers are more honest than others.

One pays one's money and takes ones chances.
Same company seller, but same employee ?
Ha ha, Barks. Me too.
I know that some shops put silly prices in when they don't actually have the item in stock.

I was purchasing a new litter box for the moggies and noticed that one of the accessories was priced at £999 instead of £4.99. I queried it and that was the explanation given. I would have thought that saying the item was out of stock would have been simpler.

Thanks everyone, unsurprisingly I plumped for the £4.11 copy - we'll see what "good condition" actually means in a few days time
a few German bullet holes in it, that's probably all.
