13 down First pair (of letters) of adults are AD, which stand for anno domini which are the years we are living in now, so when we talk about anno domini creeping up on us, we are talking about old age. Personally, I couldn't see suffuse either, the obvious Sue and us and it means flood but where does ff come in?
