Thanks. I did feel there was a painting of Scott looking into the far distance, but cannot place it. However there is a poem by Hugo called The favourite sultana. Ho hum!
Allan Cunningham wrote "Sir Michael Scott" and was friendly with Sir Walter Scott, so maybe the novel was based on him (but only a guess).
... or maybe it's just the title which matters, so nothing to do with Sir Walter.
