Cheers Daniel!
Thanks again, Daniel!
Can anyone explain to me what the instruction is supposed to mean? I've finished, but are we looking for 4 pairs or what? Dumpynose could express himself a little more clearly..........................
Quite a hard one today connecting those unclued lights - got there in the end!
Thanks to Daniel, as always.

@roslyn251254: Well done! I have solved all the clues (though I can't confirm my answer to 20A) and I think I have 5 of the unclued lights, but the penny refuses to drop. The title is no help (yet).

@maurice: The 8 unclued lights can be arranged as 2 groups of 4, each group being associated with a word which does not appear in the grid (but is probably somehow related to the title). It is unclear whether the "associated words" are associated only with their corresponding group of 4 unclued lights, or whether they are also associated with each other.
Thanks a lot! Computer crashed, but now I u'stand the lot: there is no connection between each group of 4 other than the basic meaning; the two unnamed theme words are indeed relevant to the title!
helveticus - think "stock market" for the 2 terms
helveticus - i expect you have the correct answer for 20a - in Chambers it gives it as a hebrew letter
@roslyn251254: Many thanks! Your nudge was enough.
Thanks as always Daniel.

I wish I could say that I enjoyed this puzzle but I found it bitty &
unsatisfying.
Thank you, Daniel.
Thanks for the help - we had the words (with letters still to decide in 36, for example) but found the link tenuous and agree with Kayakamina - this wasn't Dumpynose's best.
I thought this was quite fun. I managed to wrong-foot myself for a while, as once I'd got the theme I entered an 'obvious' synonym at 36 which led me to try to convince myself that to make four and four 37 could be interpreted as one theme word whereas I felt the other to be more appropriate. Luckily I looked again at the theme words in the BRB and sorted that out.
Have ground to halt on 9d, tree snake in literature swallows snuffbox almost whole. I have -A-I-A and am pretty confident of the checking letters, but this is beating me!
Kamila, a tree. The snake is 'kaa', I'm not sure how the 'mil' works.
The snuffbox is 'mill' -and 'almost whole' leads to mil(l).
Thank you both!
...I mean thank you (both times)
You're welcome.
Final clued light, would appreciate help. 28D I have E?A?T?.
Thanks in advance.
